A method of measuring Google Maps rankings across multiple geographic points in a service area, displayed as a visual grid.
Geo-grid rank tracking is a way of measuring a contractor's Google Maps position not just at a single location, but across a grid of geographic points spread across their entire service area. Instead of checking "where do I rank for HVAC in Dallas," a geo-grid shows where you rank in the north part of Dallas, the south, the east, the west, and every neighborhood in between — displayed as a color-coded map.
Each cell in the geo-grid represents a different geographic point. Green cells indicate positions 1-3 (top of the map pack). Yellow cells indicate positions 4-10 (still on page one but below the top three). Red cells indicate positions 11 or below (effectively invisible to most searchers).
Geo-grid tracking reveals something that a single-location rank check misses: most contractors rank very differently across their service area. A plumber might rank #2 in the neighborhood where their shop is located but #15 in a neighborhood five miles away — meaning they're essentially invisible to homeowners in that part of their market.
For HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and landscaping contractors in Texas metro areas like Dallas and Houston, geo-grid tracking is particularly valuable because service areas span dozens of distinct neighborhoods, each with its own competitive landscape. Understanding where you rank — and where you don't — lets you focus review collection and optimization efforts on the areas where you're closest to breaking into the top three.
